Every few years another seismic tremor roils American educational institutions: DEI and critical race theory, transgender bathroom use and sports participation and library books, ChatGPT and AI tools, and now protests over the war in Gaza. The ferocity that characterizes these disputes is sometimes seen as the result of increasing political polarization, and that’s no doubt part of the story.
